Patrol Division
Every officer of the department begins their career with the Patrol Division learning many aspects of policing along the way. The Patrol Division serves the community 24hrs a day/365 days a year. The men and women of the Patrol Division provide a highly visible uniformed police presence. Patrol Officers are often the first point of contact for citizens with the criminal justice system. Patrol Officers respond to a variety of service calls during their tours of duty making each day not like the next. They also engage in crime prevention initiatives and educate of the public throughout the course of their duties. They accomplish this by patrolling in marked and unmarked police vehicles. They also make use of motorcycles and mountain bikes to expand their outreach to areas not easily accessible by motor vehicle. The Patrol Division has not forgotten its roots in policing and even incorporates walking patrols in select areas around town.
Officers of the Patrol Division have opportunities to receive specialized training which further allows them to serve the unique and ever changing community. These areas include but are not limited to:
- Motorcycle Unit
- Mountain Bike Unit
- NEMLEC RRT/SWAT
- Crisis Intervention Team
- Children’s Car Seat Technician
- Family Services Officer
- R.AD. Instructor
Wakefield will continue to grow and change with the passing of time. The Patrol Division will be there changing with it in order to best serve the needs of the community and its residents.
