On September 14, Chief of Police Steven A. Skory announced that Lieutenant Joseph Anderson has graduated as a member of the 283rd session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia on September 13, 2022. Lieutenant Anderson is the 9th officer in department history to complete this prestigious program. Nationally, fewer than one percent of officers have the opportunity to attend the program.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers ten weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

The 283rd session consisted of two hundred and thirty-five law enforcement officers from forty-nine states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from twenty-one countries, five military organizations, and five federal and civilian agencies.

Police Chief Steven Skory noted, “We would like to congratulate Lieutenant Anderson on this tremendous accomplishment. He is a highly motivated individual that has performed at a top level throughout his career. The knowledge and skills that he has developed at the National Academy will benefit both the department and the Town of Wakefield.”

Lieutenant Anderson started with the Wakefield Police Department in 2011. He previously worked for both the Salisbury and Newbury Police Departments. Lt. Anderson began as a patrol officer and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2014 and to Lieutenant in 2019. He currently is in charge of our night division and also oversees much of our training and emergency response planning. Along with his numerous day-to-day responsibilities, Lieutenant Anderson is also the chairman of the town’s Traffic Advisory Committee.
