How do I report a crime?

To request a police detail, please call the desk officer at 781-245-1212.  We request that at least 24 hours’ notice is given for detail requests.

How can I anonymously report a non-emergency tip?
The Wakefield Police Department offers several options for people to submit non-emergency tips:

1. Call 339-219-INFO (4636) for anonymous crime tips to the Criminal Investigations Division for non-emergency crimes.
2. Submit tip through website
 

How do I report drug activity?

How do I arrange for a tour of the police station?

How do I report fraudulent charges on a credit/debit card?
Contact your bank or credit card company immediately. A police report can be filed by calling 781-245-1212 and speaking with the desk officer.  

How do I request police do traffic enforcement in my neighborhood?

  • Residents can request additional traffic enforcement by completing our online form located here
  • For issues requiring immediate response, please call 781-245-1212 or 911 for emergencies.

How do I report an online scam?
If you believe you are the victim of an Internet crime, or if you are aware of an attempted crime, you can file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center here. The IC3 was established as a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) to receive Internet related criminal complaints and to further research, develop, and refer the criminal complaints to federal, state, local, or international law enforcement and/or regulatory agencies for any investigation they deem to be appropriate.

How do I get a copy of a crash report form?
The Wakefield Police Department no longer has blank crash report forms. Forms can be downloaded directly from the RMV here.

How do I get a copy of a police officer’s crash report?
Crash reports completed by investigating officers can only be obtained here.

How do I get my fingerprints taken?
Fingerprinting is offered as a courtesy for Wakefield residents only and is done by appointment only. Appointments are to be made through the Wakefield PD Records Unit at 339-219-4509.

How do I drop off unwanted prescription medication?
The Wakefield Police has Medication Take Back and Syringe/Sharps kiosks located in the police station lobby. Both are available for Wakefield residents to use 24 hours a day. Further information

How do I pay or appeal a parking ticket?
To pay:

  • Mail in the orange envelope with a check enclosed for total dollar amount.
  • Bring to the drop off boxes at the police station lobby or Town Hall.

To appeal:  

  • You must equest a hearing in writing. Forms can be located in the lobby of the Police Station or the basement of the Town Hall at the Parking Clerk’s office.

How do I pay or appeal a traffic citation?
Within 20 days of the date of the civil citation, you must check one of the two boxes on the back of the citation:

  • check Box 1 to pay the citation, or
  • check Box 2 to request a hearing (appeal)

You may pay a Civil Citation by mail, by Internet, or by phone. Appeals must be done by mail. Further information is available from the RMV

How do I report losing my cell phone/wallet/ID/purse, etc.?

How do I get assistance with my child car seat?
At this time we are offering courtesy child safety seat inspections on a first come, first served basis and when the Officers are available. To schedule an appointment send an email and someone will contact you.

How can I become a Wakefield Police Officer?
The Wakefield Police department is a civil service department and the first step is to take the Massachusetts Civil Service Entry Level Police Officer Exam. Further information can be found here.

Can I park my car on the street overnight / winter parking ban?
Wakefield’s overnight parking ban is enforced between December 1st and April 1st. Any vehicle parked on any public roadway for longer than 1 hour between the hours of 1:00 AM and 7:00 AM is subject to a $25 fine.
