Detective Division

The Detective Unit is responsible for General and Follow-up Investigations.  Among some of the crimes investigated by the Detective Unit are Homicide, Arson, Serious Assaults, Sexual Assaults, Robberies, Burglaries, Larceny/Theft/Fraud, Drug Distribution, and others.
 
Members of Detective Unit receive additional specialized training in order to prepare them for the specific types of investigations they respond to.  Examples of this training include fingerprinting, crime scene photography, interview & interrogation techniques, and evidence collection.  Investigations assigned to the Detectives Unit are often time consuming, demanding and challenging. 
 
Some of the agencies the Detective Unit works closely with include the Wakefield Fire Department,  Department of Children and Family, Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations among many others.
