Instructions for Firearms Licenses and FID Cards

COST All Licenses To Carry and non-restrictive FID cards require a $100.00 fee, which is non-refundable.
Restrictive FID cards (for mace and pepper spray ONLY) require a $25.00 fee, which is non-refundable.
Renewals for applicants age 71 yrs or older and renewals for restrictive FID’s are free.
TRAINING CERTIFICATES License to Carry (class A and B type), All new applicants, including renewals in from another town, must provide a state approved certificate of training (photo copy) or be able to satisfy the Chief of Police that the applicant possesses the required knowledge in the care and safe handling of firearms through prior instruction.
FID cards (non restrictive) require a training certificate (Hunter and Safety course).
Restrictive FID Cards do not require a training certificate (mace or pepper spray).
APPLICATION PROCESSING (Photographs and Fingerprinting) No appointment required. Processing will be done every Tuesday between 8:30am to 1:30pm unless the Permit Officer is called away on urgent Police business. If the application and fee are dropped off before Tuesday the process will move much faster.
REQUIRED PHOTOGRAPHS Wakefield Police will take photos when the applicant is fingerprinted and processed.
PAYMENTS ALL CHECKS MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO “TOWN OF WAKEFIELD” ONLY checks or money orders accepted, (NO CASH).
NOTE: PLEASE SUBMIT THE COMPLETED APPLICATION FORM WITH THE APPLICATION FEE AND ANY OTHER REQUIRED PAPERWORK TOGETHER IN A COMPLETE PACKAGE.
APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED UNLESS ACCOMPANIED WITH THE APPROPRIATE PAYMENT.
