Avoid having your car broken into...
With spring finally arriving and summer on the way, many citizens and visitors will be spending time enjoying Lake Quannapowitt. While the walkways and recreational areas surrounding the lake are typically very safe, occasionally vehicles left in some of the more remote parking areas near the lake have been broken into. Often times our investigations indicate that the offender was attracted to a particular vehicle because some valuable article was left in view, inside the car. Follow these easy tips and avoid becoming a victim while you are at the lake:
1. Always secure any valuables left inside your car so they are completely out of view. Purses, computer bags, wallets, cell phones and other electronic gear should be stored out of sight.
2. Place your valuables in the trunk of your car BEFORE arriving at the parking lot. If thieves see you placing your valuables in the trunk just before leaving for your walk, they'll know there's probably something worth stealing being left behind.
3. Don't under-estimate these criminals. Breaking a car's window and then simply releasing the trunk from inside the car is not unusual. This crime takes just a few moments.
4. Your best bet is to leave your valuables at home, your car is vulnerable whenever and wherever it's parked.
5. MOST IMPORTANTLY , Report suspicious activity to the police immediately. If you see something or someone that looks out of place or unusual while visiting the lake, let us know. A phone call advising us about someone loitering near a lakeside parking lot could prevent a crime.
