Phone Scam - Attempted Extortion-Suspect claimed victim’s son was kidnapped and being held.
On Tuesday March 2, 2010 a person came to the Wakefield Police Station to report that someone called her cell phone claiming they were holding the reporting parties son in Lynn and that they would kill him if she didn’t pay $500.00.
The suspect told the victim to take the money to a Stop and Shop on Boston St Lynn, MA and then send the money via money gram.
Before any further information could be obtained the victim was able to contact her son who was safe and out of the state.
The male suspect spoke English with an accent.
All residents should be wary of any such claims and contact the police department immediately.
Never send money to anyone you do not know.
Always check on the well being of the person that any caller claims to have been kidnapped.
